Purpose of the Training Course

SEA TEAMS is organized jointly by King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi (KMUTT), Collaborative Computational Project No.4 (CCP4) and Collaborative Computational Project for Electron cryo-Microscopy (CCP-EM).

The school is designed for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and young scientists both from academia and industry worldwide, who are, or are planning to use macromolecular X-ray crystallography (MX) or cryo electron microscopy (cryo-EM) in their research.

There will be lectures on fundamental concepts of MX and cryo-EM, as well as software tutorials and training in all aspects of macromolecular structure solution process from sample preparation to structure refinement and deposition to PDB. Popular programs and suites, such as CCP4, CCP4 Cloud, XDS, DIALS, Global Phasing suites of programs, REFMAC, Coot, Moorhen, RELION, Doppio and much more, will be featured. All software will be presented by software developers

A big part of the school is dedicated to problem-solving sessions, where the participants will work on their own data and structures with one-on-one assistance from the world’s renowned experts.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own unprocessed diffraction data (raw images) to work on during problem-solving sessions. However, this is not mandatory. There will be also an opportunity to collect diffraction data remotely from their own crystals at Diamond Light Source (UK).

Due to its complexity and time required, Cryo-EM data collection is not feasible at this time. However, participants are encouraged to bring their own high resolution (better than 5 Å) data to work on with the help of the experts.

Applicants and Selection

The course is international and applications from all countries are welcome to apply. 20 applications will be selected for participation. THERE IS NO FEE IN SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION.

Applications will be accepted until 25 September 2026.

The selection results will be announced on 5 October 2026.

Registration Fee, to be paid AFTER the selection results are announced

Up to 20 selected applicants will be responsible for registration fees for participation in the training course as follows:

1. Students 7,000 Baht (THB)
2. Postdoctoral fellows/Academic faculty/Academic Staff/National Scientist researchers 12,000 Baht (THB)
3. Commercial/Industrial Staff 20,000 Baht (THB)

Course materials, lunch, dinner and coffee breaks throughout the workshop are included in the registration fee. However, all selected participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging. Recommended accommodation on campus or nearby KMUTT are available at economical rates.

Some financial support will be available for the course attendees.
